EDF Energy Birmingham Half Marathon 2009
The EDF Energy Birmingham Half Marathon 2009 was a resounding success with over 12,000 runners signed up to race. The runners literally followed in the footsteps of around 200 elite athletes who just before had taken part in the IAAF / EDF Energy World Half Marathon Championships.
Over 50% of the runners who signed up to race also signed up to Team Green Britain, our online community designed to encourage the nation to take action towards a more sustainable lifestyle.
We also held a Team Green Britain event in Chamberlain Square in Birmingham City Centre, with a number of other organisations getting involved such as the British Heart Foundation who ran a Swap Shop, and Birmingham’s bike pro team who carried out free bike health checks. All these activities were designed to help people by giving practical advice on how to cut their carbon footprint.
This year the EDF Energy Birmingham Half Marathon will aim to become Europe’s first certified responsible race, by following a number of principles detailed by the Council for Responsible Sport.
